ALMATY, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Kazakhstan plans to introduce administrative liability for illegal trade on electronic trading platforms, the country's Kazinform news agency reported Friday.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Economy Serik Zhumangarin said in response to a parliamentary inquiry that the Ministry of Trade and Integration is working to improve legislation in the field of e-commerce.
According to him, members of the Mazhilis, or the lower house of Kazakhstan's parliament, have proposed amendments to the Law on Consumer Rights Protection. The draft amendments seek to clarify the terminology related to e-commerce entities, such as electronic trading platforms, marketplaces, online stores, and information and advertising platforms.
The proposed legislation would also introduce a number of obligations for these entities, including requirements to provide accurate information about sellers and products.
"To protect the legitimate interests of consumers and rights holders, the draft law proposes administrative liability for the absence of such information, as well as for illegal trade conducted via online platforms," Zhumangarin said. ■
