KATHMANDU, May 30 (Xinhua) -- Nineteen children and 226 adults lost their lives in 3,049 traffic accidents between April 14 and May 14 across Nepal, police said on Friday.
A total of 719 others were seriously injured and 4,035 sustained minor injuries in the accidents involving 4,565 vehicles, Nepal Police said in a report.
Motorcycles were responsible for 56.21 percent of the accidents, followed by cars at 18.34 percent and trucks and tippers at 5.74 percent, the report noted.
"The police raised 96.21 million Nepali rupees (0.702 million U.S. dollars) in fines for violations of traffic rules during the same period," added the report. ■
