NINGBO, China, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- Norway's Jeanette Hegg Duestad delivered a dominant wire-to-wire performance to win the women's 50m rifle three positions gold at the ISSF World Cup on Friday, securing her second title of the week.
The 26-year-old led the final from the opening series and built a commanding 3.6-point cushion before her last shot. Though she closed with a 9.5, it was more than enough to clinch victory with 466.2 points.
"This final was actually really fun, and I think I managed to give a solid performance the entire way," said the world No. 1. "Even though today was one of the warmest days, and the qualification was hard, the atmosphere in the final was completely different, and I really liked it here."
Duestad, who had already won the 10m air rifle mixed team gold on Tuesday, will return Sunday for the women's 10m air rifle - the last event of the Ningbo World Cup. "Everything is possible," she added. "I will fight to be in one more final on Sunday."
Denmark's Rikke Maeng Ibsen, the newly crowned European champion, settled for silver with 463.3 points. "Coming from the European Championships, this was a very different competition," Ibsen said. "I was really enjoying the entire final. The atmosphere was amazing, the spectators, and everything."
The bronze went to Barbora Dubska of the Czech Republic, who made her first senior World Cup final and scored 451.4. "I didn't expect this after my qualification. I thought I messed it up," the 21-year-old admitted. "In the final I didn't start the best, but once it came to standing everything fitted me well. I'm super happy about the bronze."
China's Olympic bronze medalist Zhang Qiongyue topped qualification with 592 points, but as a Ranking Points Only (RPO) entry, she was not eligible for the final. Another Chinese shooter, 19-year-old debutant Zhang Liyuan, impressed by reaching the final before finishing seventh.
The Ningbo World Cup continues Saturday with the women's 10m air pistol and men's 25m rapid fire pistol finals. ■
