UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 11 (Xinhua) -- UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres spoke with Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on the phone Thursday, Guterres' spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said.

The UN chief and the Iranian foreign minister discussed the nuclear issue and the situation in Yemen, including the ongoing detention of UN personnel and others in that country, Dujarric told a daily briefing.

The secretary-general also spoke with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, and expressed his solidarity following the Israeli attack in Doha, the spokesperson said. ■
