RIO DE JANEIRO, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Wesley Franca struck late as Flamengo recovered from a goal down to clinch a 2-1 away win over Bragantino in Brazil's Serie A on Wednesday.
The hosts went ahead just after halftime when Jhon Rosa's one-touch pass from inside his own half released Lucas Barbosa, who timed his run to perfection before finishing clinically into the bottom-left corner.
Flamengo equalized just after the hour through Leo Pereira, who headed home at the far post after Giorgian de Arrascaeta's floating free-kick.
Wesley completed the turnaround by firing home from a tight angle after Wallace Yan's pass.
"It's a very long season. We know how strong the teams at the top of the table are, and Bragantino is one of them," Flamengo manager Filipe Luis told a post-match news conference.
"I have a lot of confidence in this squad. When we drew level tonight our first thought was to get the ball and put pressure on Bragantino so that we could turn the game around. We know that we always have to play to win because a draw isn't good enough for this team."
Flamengo remains second in Brazil's 20-team Serie A standings with 33 points, one behind Cruzeiro but with a game in hand. Bragantino is fourth, six points further back.
In other fixtures on Wednesday, Palmeiras won 2-1 at Fluminense, Mirassol prevailed 2-1 at Ceara, Corinthians was held to a goalless home draw by Cruzeiro, Sport drew 2-2 at Vitoria and Internacional won 2-1 at Santos. ■
