KATHMANDU, March 14 (Xinhua) -- A leader of the ruling Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist Leninist), Ganesh Timalsina, was elected as the chairman of the National Assembly (NA), the Upper House of the Nepal's Federal Parliament, on Wednesday.

A meeting of the National Assembly held in Kathmandu announced Timalsina the NA chair.

Timalsina was elected unopposed as he was the only candidate to file nomination for the post, spokesman for the Federal Parliament Bharat Raj Gautam told media.

Timalsina is a member of the Upper House of the Federal Parliament and deputy coordinator of the CPN (UML) party in the province-4 of Nepal. He had started his political career four decades ago.

On March 5, the first session of the Federal Parliament was held, more than three months after the Himalayan nation held provincial and federal parliament elections simultaneously in two phases in November and December last year.
